The BIBA – Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics, one of Bremen’s most renowned research institutions, will be exhibiting at Drone Days 2026.
BIBA was founded in 1981 as the first affiliated institute of the University of Bremen and, with approximately 150 employees, is now one of the largest research institutions in the state of Bremen. In its two research areas, “Intelligent Production and Logistics Systems” (IPS) and “Information and Communication Technology Applications in Production” (IKAP), the institute combines applied research with industrial contract research, including in the logistics, automotive, aviation, and wind energy sectors.
What makes BIBA particularly exciting for Drone Days is that the institute has researched the use of drones in production and logistics through several projects. The “safetyDrone” project developed a drone for occupational safety measures in shipbuilding, while “DroneStock” investigated drone-based inventory reconciliation in high-bay warehouses. In addition, BIBA has conducted research on lighter-than-air drones (LaL drones) for use in shipyards and large industrial halls—quiet, durable, and particularly safe in operation.
With BIBA, an institute is bringing its expertise to Drone Days—one that views drones not from the traditional aviation perspective, but from the perspective of manufacturing and logistics. In doing so, BIBA offers a perspective that is of great importance for many applications in industry and business.
